Takamaka staff at the landing site where you start off were very friendly and spoke decent English. I was reassured by the staff that all the pilots speak English well, and certainly that was our experience. They were good enough to be reassuring for the safety conscious American when doing something crazy like running off the edge of a mountain and paragliding over water. There were no wavers to sign - completely different from doing similar 'dangerous sports' in the USA. It's a 20 minute hairpin turn ride in a van with your tandem pilots up to Col de la Forclaz at 5000 ft. The take-off site has stunning views over Lake Annecy and is very busy at peak times in the afternoon (when the wind is at its best). My guy was Bruno, he had 25 years of experience, 20 as a professional. He checked my harness was secure, gave me clear instructions and was very reassuring. I didn't have time to get nervous; as soon as the chute was laid out on the ground, I was running off the edge with him facing the other way to check the chute opened up and was in the air properly before we went over the edge. Bruno was fantastic; his English was excellent, he was entertaining, happy to explain why it was such a great place to paraglide (in case you're wondering it's due to the convergence of two streams of air, one over the lake and one from the adjacent broad valley, and he explained how we could catch a thermal and rise up on that. He demonstrated it beautifully - we went higher than anyone else on my prestige 30 minute experience - as high as the tallest peaks around us. My husband's pilot also spoke excellent English (can't remember her name, sorry!) The pilots have cameras on selfie sticks and they take video and stills photos. Mine were stunningly good quality and well worth it. They take most of the pictures and video when you're over the lake so you get the best shots up and down the lake as mementoes and they work hard to make sure you'll get some fun photos as well. I got to take control of the chute which was fantastic fun and I loved it when we finished up with some more acrobatic turns right before landing (the trick is to look the direction you're turning and lean that way too - it stops you feeling sick! - Thanks Bruno!). Landing was incredibly easy. I landed on my feet smoothly with no risk of injury. All in all, a fantastic experience and I strongly recommend it!
